Do I qualify for an OLEV grant?

Do I qualify for an OLEV grant?

The Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) was designed to help private plug-in vehicle owners offset some of the upfront cost associated with the purchase and installation of a dedicated domestic home-charging unit. Customers who meet the criteria outlined below may receive up to 75% (capped at £500, inc. VAT) off the total cost of the chargepoint and the associated installation costs. You will not be required to pay for the grant upfront and claim it back as the authorised chargepoint installer will claim the 75% (capped at £500) on your behalf. It is important to note that not all plug-in vehicles will qualify you for the OLEV grant. All full-battery electric vehicles qualify and some plug-in hybrids that emissions are calculated below 75g/km. The vehicle must also have been purchased from 1st October 2016 onwards.

We understand that the purchasing of an electric vehicle and homecharging point can be complicated.

Electric car drivers can receive £500 towards the purchasing and installation of a home charger with the OLEV grant - significantly reducing the overall cost. Once your charging point is installed, all you pay for is the electricity used to charge your vehicle.

Currently the typical electricity rate in the UK is 14.37p per kWh, whilst on an Economy 7 tariff you can expect 7 hours power charged at 8p per kWh - a tariff worth considering if you're charging your vehicle overnight.

This means that the cost of fully charging a 60 kWh electric car will cost roughly £8.40 if charged during the day and £4.80 if charged overnight - providing you with roughly 200 miles range.

Having a charging point installed at home can save you £££'s.
